Copal
Copal is a term for young, unripened amber. Copal is a resinous substance in an intermediate stage of polymerization and hardening between more viscous resins and Amber. Amber is fossil resin or tree sap that is at least ten million years old and any resins less than this are considered to be copal. Dating Copal is almost impossible, and it typically ranges from several hundred to several thousand, and even thought to be up to a million years old. Copal ranges in colour from pale yellow, orange, red and white. Copal is often substituted with amber.
